“Tell your friends in NPP and NDC to stop the political football on cocaine,” he said.
According to him, Ghanaians who frequently travel outside the country to transact business are constantly shadowed by “corruption in government, Ebola and now, cocaine.”
“Everywhere I go, they ask for those who have been to West Africa in the past 21 days to identify themselves – no distinction between Liberia, Sierra Leone, Guinea and West Africa,” he stated.
The arrest of a Ghanaian woman at the Heathrow Airport in the UK for attempting to smuggle 12.5 kilograms of cocaine has taken a political twist as sections of the general public, some persons within the ruling NDC and the NPP are accusing each other of engaging in drug trade.
A former Chief of Staff under the Kufuor Administration, Kwadwo Mpiani, has said it is wrong for the NPP to tag the Mahama administration with a cocaine label although the NDC did same to them during Kufuor’s regime.
In a post on his Facebook page, the 2012 PPP Presidential candidate warned that anyone who has been or still is a “Member of Parliament (MP), a Minister of State, a party official – CPP, PPP, NPP, GCPP, NDC, PNC and now business people in general must pay attention to the corruption tag.”
He remarked that it is imperative that the issues are addressed or else, the nation will “sink together under its weight; and now the cocaine thing.”
“We all lose when state institutions are weakened so much by partisan punches that they cannot solve problems such as this. We all stand to lose. Travel and see!” he stated.
