Hiplife
musician Kwaw Kesse could be part of this year’s campaign of ‘Say No To
Drugs’, which is an annual outreach programme to prisoners.
This is part of Kwaw Kesse’s advocacy for increased youth development programmes and reforms in the country.
“[Kwaw Kesse] remains
committed to the ‘Say No To Drugs Campaign’ as is evident in his support
to Prisons and outreach programs each year. This year we are hopeful he
may be able to do so again.”
These were contained
in a joint statement issued on Wednesday, December 17 by the Musicians
Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) and Madtime Entertainment, the record label of
the embattled artiste.
Known in private life
as Emmanuel Botchwey, Kwaw Kesse was arrested on Saturday, November 22
for publicly smoking a substance that later tested as Indian hemp.
He has been remanded in prison custody for a total of four weeks and expected to reappear in court on Monday, December 22.
“On behalf of the
Musicians Union of Ghana and Madtime Entertainment, we would like to
express our gratitude to the general public for the tremendous show of
support and campaigns for our brother and artiste, Kwaw Kese’s case in
court,” said the statement jointly signed by Ahuma Bosco Ocansey,
MUSIGA’s Director of Communications and Special Project, and Kevin
Aggrey, Madtime Entertainment’s Manager.
It, however, adjured
all and sundry to desist from making statements that could be
prejudicial “in our brother’s quest for justice”.
“We are, therefore,
calling on all parties to desist from making further statements and
embarking on campaigns such as #FreeKwawKesse et al in a bid to support
Kwaw Kesse,” it indicated.
“On the contrary, these activities along with the heightened media coverage only go to worsen the plight of Kwaw.”
The statement expressed the trust Kwaw Kesse has placed in God for “a good outcome” of the case.
