allegedly stealing 504 boxes of baby diapers valued at GH¢55,500.
The

collected the ‘Bun Bun’ baby diapers from a company, Dweliquans Company
Limited, but absconded without paying for them.
Bernice, who has
been on the police wanted list since July 2014, is said to belong to a
group whose members defraud people by posing as businessmen or women.
The practice is codenamed: ‘Gold Coast’.
Baby diaper contract
Briefing
the Daily Graphic, the Odorkor District Police Crime Officer, Deputy
Superintendent of Police (DSP), Mr Emmanuel Osei Agbodeka, said on July
16, 2014, Bernice went to the showroom of Dweliquans Company Limited
where she collected the items with a promise to pay for them.
“After taking delivery of the baby diapers, she disappeared without paying for them,” the officer said.
Subsequently, the Director of Dweliquans Company Limited, Mr Daniel Welberg, reported the case to the Odorkor Police.
Arrest On
October 1, 2014, while investigations were ongoing, the police said, a
man named Bismark Appiah was arrested in Kumasi with boxes of Bun Bun
baby diapers as he was looking for buyers.
“According to Appiah, the diapers were given to him by Bernice to find buyers for her,” Mr Agbodeka said.
He
said the Kaneshie Divisional Police had earlier received a complaint on
August 18, 2014 that a woman who gave her name as Bernice Gakpetor had
used the same modus operandi to take delivery of 1,121 bags of washing
powder valued at GH¢67,200 from a company known as Kanje London Ghana
Limited at Awudome in Accra.
On January 27 this year, Bernice
allegedly went to another shop near Madina in Accra and attempted to use
the same method to take away assorted items, including baby diapers.
However,
the shop attendant, who was suspicious of the business transaction,
alerted the police, leading to the suspect’s arrest. |
