Veteran actor and president of the Ghana Actors Guild (GAG), Samuel Nii Odoi Mensah, has lost both kidneys and is currently in dire need of support.

This came to light after the sudden death of Nollywood actor, Muna Obiekwe, who had also been diagnosed of kidney failure and was on dialysis.

According to actress Juliet Ibrahim, who runs a support foundation for kidney patients, she has been supporting Mr. Odoi Mensah for a while now, and he now needs major support from the public, as he is now a chronic patient.

She wrote the following statement after posting a video of her and the veteran appealing for support.

My last donation to veteran actor Nii Odoi Mensah who is now a chronic kidney failure patient.
He is in need of your help he has lost both kidneys. He has been going through this all alone till he realized he alone can't be able to pay his hospital bills which cost per dialysis 100 usd 3 times a week for the rest of his life.

Symptoms of kidney failure are due to the build-up of waste products in the body that may cause weakness, shortness of breath, lethargy, and confusion. Inability to remove potassium from the bloodstream may lead to abnormal heart rhythms and sudden death. Initially, there may be no symptoms of kidney failure.

Mr. Odoi Mensah was well known on Ghanaian screens and in movie during the 90s and early 2000s. He starred alongside veterans such as Grace Nortey, Brew Riverson Jr., Victor Lutterodt, among others.

He was in the news a couple of years ago when he attempted to stop producer of Afia Schwarzenegger, Deloris Frimpong Manso, from holding auditions for the lead character.
