The clashes triggered by an assault on a young girl are said to have ethnic undertones.
Police personnel have been deployed to the area to restore order, Joy News' Kwetey Nartey reported.
Narrating what happened, Nartey said the young girl had gone to ease herself at a portion of land said to be occupied by a rival ethnic group.
She was beaten up and sent away.
The injured girl then went to tell her father who led her back to where she was beaten.
Unfortunately, the father was hit with a hammer, triggering a violent confrontation, Nartey reported.
There were exchanges of gun fire by persons from the two groups.
When the police intervened, the factions began pelting them with stones.
One of the police officers was said to have been struck by a stone.
No arrests have yet been made, the police confirmed but have committed to patrol the area until total calm is restored.
