This incredible image capture the moment one lucky commuter spotted a once-in-a-lifetime quadruple rainbow spreading magic across the sky.

Amanda Curtis took the stunning shot this morning while waiting for a train at Glen Cove railway station in Long Island in New York.

The bars of light appeared after a soggy storm system Monday into the early hours Tuesday began to leave the area.

The American was waiting for the train when she, and other commuters, spotted a double rainbow on the far end of the spectrum.

But when she looked to the other side, she saw the four rays in the sky.

She tweeted: "Quadruple #Rainbow at #glencove ny @LIRR station Today will be 4 pots of #gold #lucky #chasetherainbow #aprilshowers "

“I just thought it was interesting,” Ms Curtis, the owner of Williamsburg-based fashion firm Nineteenth Amendment, told the Daily News. “It’s Tuesday, it’s 6:30 a.m., you need a little motivation.

“I’m gonna go buy a lottery ticket now."

Her picture has since gone viral on Twitter, having been retweeted and favourited more than 100 times.

To one person who tweeted about her photograph, Ms Curtis said: "I hope it brings some luck to everyone who sees it."
