Dani Carvajal has denied biting Atletico Madrid striker Mario Mandzukic.

The Real Madrid defender appeared to sink his teeth into Mandzukic's arm, before swinging a punch into his stomach, during the two sides' 0-0 draw at the Vicente Calderon.

However, Carvajal took to Twitter in the aftermath of the game to categorically deny he bit his opponent.

His tweet, published in Spanish, roughly translates as: "Seeing after the match that he accuses me of biting a rival player, I want to make it clear that I have not bitten anyone, or attempted to do so."

After staying on the field for the alleged offence, Carvajal praised the referee as Los Blancos failed to score an away goal going into the return fixture.

“In these games, it is difficult for the referee. With the tension that it generates, he was fine, I congratulate him from here," he said.

"In the first half we were better but we couldn’t do the same in the second half, the pitch didn’t help. We’re going with a 0-0 to the BernabĂ©u, where it will be decided.”

It wasn't the only talking point in the game, with what appeared to be an elbow from Sergio Ramos catching Mandzukic in the face, leaving him with a bloody nose.
