Disgraced Olympic and Paralympic gold medallist Oscar Pistorius has applied for leave to fight his conviction for murdering his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.

He is in court to apply for bail after judges last week changed his manslaughter conviction to murder - and the killer now faces a minimum 15-year jail sentence.

Pistorius, known as 'Blade Runner' because of the carbon fibre prosthetic blades he used to race, was released from jail on October 19 and had been meant to serve the rest of that five-year sentence under house arrest at his uncle's house in a wealthy suburb of the capital Pretoria.

Model Reeva Steenkamp, 29, died on Valentine's Day in 2013 after he shot her four times through a locked toilet door.
