Johannesburg – There has been no communication with the three people believed to be still trapped underground at the Lily Mine in Mpumalanga's Nkomazi area, Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union (AMCU) told News24 on Saturday evening.

"Currently the situation is still the same. There no sign of the three people. We are still trying to dig underground with the rescue teams. We cannot tell currently what is what. There is still tons of rubble covering the area where they are trapped," AMCU's John Sibiya told News24.

A total of 76 miners were rescued after being trapped underground when the mine collapsed on Friday morning.

The three that are still missing are believed to be in the lamp room near the surface. It is used for the charging, servicing, and issuing all cap, hand, and flame safety lamps.

The rescued miners had sustained minor to moderate injuries ranging from breathing difficulties to lacerations.
