The district Chief Executive for Jaman North,Mr Nti Ateware Daniel, has cautioned parents and guardians to regulate the manner at which their school going kids watch telenovelas and get them to study always.

He said if the kids are addicted to these TV soaps it makes it difficult for government to raise the standards of education and human capital in the country.

The Educationist cum DCE made this call when he innaugrated a three unit block for the Presbyterian  Junior High School Duadaso number 1 in the district last Wednesday.

"Government is doing very well in raising education standards hence the massive provision of infrastructure to enhance learning but if a teacher does their part and a parent fails to do their part, then change has not occurred",he added.

In his view,it was absolutely wrong and irresponsible for parents to gleefully watch movies with their kids instead of instructing them to revise their notes given them by their tutors back at school.

Amid loud applause from the crowd at the durbar, Mr Nti-Ateware reiterated that from the experience gained from his long teaching years, pupils who revise their notes after instructional hours are those that are more likely to excel in their examinations than those who refuse to study after school hours.

"Why do you take delight in watching Kumkum Bagya together  with your children when you know they will not be asked questions on that in their final examination?",he quizzed.

It is observed that students across the country have taken over the watching of television soap operas in local televisions at prime times during weekdays which get students discussing its scenes in school,an act some educationists have frowned on,attributing it to the hindrance of good learning outcomes.

The educationist turned DCE also accorded that like government,  parents also as stakeholders of education have a greater responsibility in the wellbeing of their little ones hence the need to control the manner at which kids watch these telenovelas.

"It is your own good to stop them for when you prevent them from watching these serial films, they will learn hard and turn to kwell your poverty when they grow old and get good Jobs",he adviced.
He revealed that these acts when left unchecked will increase the unemployment rate in the country because "even when government create employment opportunities,we won't have competent people to employ because of Kumkum Bagya".
