The five policemen and some residents have sustained bullet wounds in a chieftaincy dispute in Kumawu Bodomase in the Ashanti Region.

The injured are currently receiving medical attention at Juaben government hospital.

The Ashanti regional Police Command has deployed joint Police and Military armed men to the area to maintain law and order in a renewed chieftaincy clash between Berimah Sarfo Tweneboah Kodua II, self-acclaimed paramount chief of Kumawu and Kumawu Queen Mother Nana Serwaa Ampomaa.

The clash begun during the funeral rites of the late Kumawu Akyempenghene’s Nana Okyere Krampah, after queen mother who belongs to a faction of Barima Tweneboah Kodua V, the current Paramount Chief of Kumawu allegedly ordered police to stop Barima Sarfo Tweeneboah Kodua II from attending the funeral as Kumawuhene accompanied by some divisional chiefs.

But supporters of Barimah Sarfo Tweneboah Kodua II forcibly resisted the police attempt to stop them from attending the funeral.

This compelled the police to fire warning shots and teargas to control the angry followers of the self-acclaimed paramount Chief, a move that turned into a gun battle between his followers and the police.

The Kumawu Chieftaincy litigation was brought to end after Barimah Tweneboah Koduah V sworn the great Asante oat to Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II last year until the latest clashes.
