The CPP activist strongly contends the minister's role in the power crisis currently being experienced nationwide cannot be glossed over.
“The president should sack the energy ministry…he is the cause of all of these problems…he talks too much…talking does not solve the problem. Talking is not a friend of a legitimate government endowed and entrusted with the responsibility to perform functions…you have to work and your work will speak volumes,” Kabila told Kwami Sefa Kayi on ‘Kokrokoo’.
He further indicated that the President should have fired the Energy Minister instead of the former Managing Director of ECG, Rev. Ing William Hutton-Mensah because the Volta River Authority (VRA), GRIDCo as well as ECG are all under the Energy Ministry.
Kabila, as the former CPP National Youth Organiser is affectionately called, also predicted that the new Ministry of Power will create problems in the future instead of helping to solve the ongoing power crisis.
On Saturday, President Mahama announced the setting up of a new Ministry of Power and also appointed the Chairman of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Energy, Dr Kwabena Donkor as its Minister.
But to Kwabena Bomfeh, there is no distinct difference between the Energy ministry and the Ministry of Power, thus he foresees conflicting roles which will cause serious problems in the near future.
“Power generates energy and so what is the difference between the Energy Ministry and the Ministry of Power?…how does the creation of another ministry solve the problem in any way…very soon there will be conflicts between the energy ministry and the power ministry in terms of roles…Even the forming of this ministry shows that the president has lost confidence in the energy ministry,” he remarked.
