Some staff members of the power distributor are protesting the recent dismissal of their former Managing Director, Rev. Ing. William Hutton-Mensah by the President.
A letter signed by the Chief of Staff last week replaced Reverend Hutton-Mensah with the Head of Procurement at the ECG Robert Dwamena.
The move follows a severe load-shedding regime the country has been plunged in, lately.
The decision didn’t go down well with the workers.
They have threatened to shut down the power generating equipment if the president fails to heed their call to reinstate their former boss.
Speaking to Paul Adom-Otchere on Metro TV’s Good Evening Ghana, the President said the workers misunderstood the content of the letter issued by the Chief of Staff.
He explained that Reverend Hutton-Mensah has only been reassigned and not dismissed as is being speculated.
“Well, I will just ask the workers to calm down and do their job”.
“We appreciate the work that they are doing. All of us are concerned to make ECG better. I think they might have concerns but they should come down and work as a team to help the management that is in place and with the new Ministry that we have created. Ghanaians want power and they want it in the most efficient way” Mahama stated.
