He said unity was needed if the party was to win Election 2016 and urged supporters, especially those at the grassroots, to put aside mischievousness in the interest of the party.
Mr Kumi, a former Ambassador to Libya and High Commissioner to Nigeria, said this when he addressed NPP polling station executives in the Sunyani East constituency at a Christmas party he organized for them at Abesim near Sunyani.
He said the party was relying on its polling station structures to recapture power in 2016 elections as they held the strength of the NPP.
Mr Kumi said it was important for the leadership of the NPP to ensure that supporters at the grassroots were well catered for and motivated to enable them to win more support for the party.
He said when the party’s local supporters were discouraged it affected effective political campaigns which would also diminished the party’s fortunes in the general election,
The former Ambassador stressed the need for the party to guard against unnecessary factionalism and come together in identifying and finding lasting solutions to challenges that led to the defeat of the party in Elections 2008 and 2012.
Mr Kumi said hopes for the party were high because of the bad economic situation in the country but added that it would however be disastrous if the party supporters and members overlooked the opportunity to step up campaigning.
