The police yesterday intensified their manhunt for the hit-and-run tipper truck driver who allegedly killed a motor rider and wounded another in a crash at Obuasi in the Ashanti Region on Saturday.

Tingin Ibrahim, 35, is said to have slammed his tipper truck with registration number AW 188 X into an unregistered motorbike that was being ridden by Kwasi Boakese Oteng and his friend, Clement Dodoo.

Chief Inspector Paul Kofi Atta, Obuasi Divisional Station Officer of the Motor Transport and Traffic Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service, said Dodoo died at the scene of the accident, while his friend, Boakese Oteng, who was riding the motorbike, suffered head and leg injuries and remained on admission at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi.

The police chief stated that the truck had ploughed into the two men as they rode their motorcycle along the Obuasi-Kunka junction road after a clean-up exercise.

Shocked bystanders rushed to help and called the emergency services after the driver of the truck, which was loaded with sand, had failed to stop, an eyewitness told DAILY GUIDE.

Meanwhile, the police are waiting for the recovery of a taxi cab driver, Sylvester Wantenkoro, to assist them in the investigation of another auto crash which left one person dead at Akrokerri on Friday.

Isaac Asiedu, driver of Asare Bediako Senior High School, met his untimely death after his Opel Astra car with registration number AS 4606-13, ran into the cabbie’s vehicle while driving from Patakro toward Akrokerri in the Adansi North District of the Ashanti Region.

Sylvester was also driving an Opel Caravan taxi cab registered AS 4608-13, when the accident occurred, Chief Inspector Kofi Atta revealed.
