The Aflao Police in the early hours of Wednesday December 31, intercepted 230 compressed parcels of leaves supposed to be Indian Hemp at Adafienu beach near Denu in the Volta Region.

The parcels stuffed in five sacks, were to be loaded into a boat to be transported to Lome, Togo by sea, the police said.

The Aflao District Police Commander, Chief Suprintendent Augustus Luguyare revealed that the suspected owners of the substance jumped into the sea and swam away upon seeing the Police Patrol vehicle approach.

He said the Police upon a tip off moved to the beach at 0300 hours. Meanwhile, an Aflao Circuit Court has granted an order for the leaves to be destroyed.

This is not the first time Police have intercepted parcels of Indian hemp in the region.

Eleven suspected criminals were rounded up in a Police swoop in suspected criminal dens at Aflao and Denu last week.

Compressed parcels and dozens of wrappings, suspected to be Indian hemp, sachets of alcoholic drinks, cutlass and two hammers were seized from them.
