Equatorial Guinea have learnt their lessons –GFA President [@Ghanafaofficial]

Ghana Football Association President Kwesi Nyantakyi says the disciplinary action taken against host nation Equatorial Guinea will serve as a deterrence against further incidents of violence as AFCON 2015 draws to a close Sunday.

“It is a fair decision. You don’t punish people to destroy them” he evaluated CAF’s sanctions.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has fined Equatorial Guinea $100,000 for aggressive behavior shown by fans during the 3-0 semi-final defeat they suffered at the hands of Ghana.

In a moment of madness, fans from the host nation hurled stones, bottles and projectiles at the Ghana players on the pitch.

Ghanaian fans were not spared. The FA President expressed dismay at the vulnerability of Ghanaian fans who were exposed to the brunt of angry fans.

"It was an unjustifiable, unprovoked attack. What was the motivation for attacking them? There was no basis for attacking them", Nyantakyi told the BBC.

The sanctions came in in less than 24 hours.

Weighing in on the sanctions, Kwesi Nyantayki who is also an executive member of CAF told Joy News, he respects the decision and believes it is enough to “put fear into the fans.”

Equatorial Guinea will play DR Congo for the third place on Saturday while Ghana take on Ivory Coast in the grand finale on Sunday.

The FA President dismissed concerns of a re-occurrence of violence.
