Alves, 32, says he is prepared to quit the Nou Camp after the Champions League Final on June 6, despite Barcelona's offer of a new deal, because he feels disrespected by them.
This has alerted United, together with a number of other clubs including Paris St Germain, and boss Louis van Gaal is keen to sign a right-back this summer.
However United have other defensive targets on their shortlist and will pursue them before making the Brazilian an offer.
Alves, however, will not talk about where his future lies until after the final against Juventus next weekend.
He said: "It is a reward to be playing another final, we know how difficult it is to get there. "We have to be very careful with Juventus. We know it’ll be a tough game, worthy of a final.
"We have too much at stake for me to be thinking about my future. Out of respect, I’m only thinking about the finals. From June 7 I’ll announce my future. Now, the future is about playing in two finals.
"My intention was not to speak, but I haven’t been respected with a lot of silly things. It’s gone too far. While I’m in this squad, I’ll be doing my little bit to help achieve our targets."
"I don’t want anybody to influence my decisions. My future only depends on me."
