The Ghana international has agreed a five-year contract and will head to London to complete his medical ahead of being confirmed a Chelsea player later this week.Baba, as he is known, has been watched by Roma, Arsenal and Manchester City. The Premier League duo were particularly interested but were concerned at the asking price and understood the player was keen on Chelsea. Jose Mourinho has been looking for another left back to provide back-up to Cesar Azpilicueta after allowing Filipe Luis to return to Atletico Madrid after just a season at Stamford Bridge. The Chelsea boss is also keen to add more signings to a defence which conceding twice in their opening day draw with Swansea on Saturday.
Everton's John Stones is in Mourinho's sights but he could face disappointment with Everton ready to reject a third Chelsea offer of around £30m. So far this summer Chelsea have made just two major signings, with Asmir Begovic coming in to replace Petr Cech as second-choice goalkeeper behind Asmir Begovic, while Radamel Falcao has come in on loan to provide cover for striker Diego Costa.
