There have been times where musicians accuse each other of stealing songs belonging to another person. However, most of these claims sometimes becomes false. In Ghana and across the world, there have been several times where some musical artist have been accused of stealing songs belonging to another party.

This is not to cause any tension but to show how the situation never proved to be true. We support true music and therefore must support it to the fullness. Now, let's read on:

  •  Sonnie Badu:
Sonnie Badu was been accused of stealing a song from Soji Israel from Nigeria. That particular song was "Wonder God". Sonnie said he never knew the chorus of his “Wonder God” track belonged to the Nigerian. Sonnie Badu said he is not a song snatcher, he however said he was ready to pay compensation if Soji can prove ownership with some supporting legal documentation.
  • Guru

“Boys Abre” hitmaker Guru was also accused of stealing a song. The accusation came from an artiste called  Nautica, and the title of the supposed song was “Oboompa”‘. According to the manager, when his artiste recorded ‘Oboompa’ , it needed a push, so the Management decided to approach Guru for a feature. Guru was said to have listened to the song, agreed to do the feature but requested for an amount of 3000 Ghana Cedis,  an amount K9 said was too exorbitant to pay. Then the next thing, Guru was accused of recording the same song. Guru has also been accused by Pope Skinny, another rapper of stealing a song from him.
  • Old Souja
Old Souja who is also known as Asa Khalifa has also been accused by Prince D-Face for stealing his song. According to Prince, Asa Khalifa stole all his lyrics and had other artists to feature him on that particular song.
  • Ohemaa Mercy

Ohemaa Mercy was also accused of stealing a hit song from Elder Mireku ‘Wobeye Kese’ from another musician Elder Mireku. According to reports, Elder Mireku was the original composer of the song and had even performed it at a church in the USA from where either Ohemaa Mercy might have heard the song or someone might have sold it to her. Reacting to the allegation in an interview with myjoyonline, Mr. Isaac Twum-Ampofo, husband and manager of Ohemaa Mercy denied the allegation and said there is no iota of truth in the story.
  • Edem
Edem recently came out to deny claims by Eduwodzi that he stole his song. The Ayigbe rap god said he recorded the song in 2010 before his hit song ‘Over Again’, and also thought of featuring MzVee. Matters are now down for this issue and there is actually nothing to talk about again.

A lot of musicians have been accused of stealing songs from another. Some include Joey B, Florence Obinim and others. However, it never proved to be true. I think if people or musical artists concentrate on their work and stop hating each other, there will be much sanity.
