The queen mother of Kenyasi number 2 in the Brong -Ahafo region,Nana Aboagyewaa Tenkwamaa II, has urged  mining firms in the country to add security resourcing to the aides they extend to the communities whose lands they carry out mining activities.

Nana Tenkwamaa II believes that government alone cannot equip all the Security agencies in the country  to carry out their duties effectively as  the country goes to the polls in November this year.

Like the Ghana police service, many  security  forces in the country are not well resourced to maintain the peace and tranquillity   the country needs.

Challenges various security agencies face in the country ranges from insufficient fuel for night patrols, delay in  funds for vehicle maintenance, lack of motor cycles for patrols,
among others.

On her visit to the Kenyasi plant site of the Newmont Ghana Gold limited (NGGL), last weekend, to familiarise with the management after she was enstooled the queen mother of the area, she appealed to the company to assist the security agencies to help them carry out various  patrols to curb social vices such as the ever escalating highway robberies,  as well as public education on the need to maintain peace and order in the region.

She added that when the country enjoys absolute peace, the company can also operate smoothly in the area to get more profit from their mining business.

Mr. Joep Coenen, the General Manager of Newmont Ahafo Mine, noted that the safety of the people especially those in the Asutifi North and south districts could not be underestimated as the country prepares to go to polls.

According to Mr Coenen, though Newmont in collaboration with the community leadership has already set up a development foundation known as Newmont Ahafo Development Foundation (NADeF) where it contributes 1% of its profit after taxes and US$1 per every ounce of gold sold to support sustainable development in its host communities, they will not hesitate to extend  help to the community in that regard.
