GHAMRO holds its first ever Annual General Meeting | Adopts a New Constitution

History was made on Thursday May 26 2016 at the Great Hall of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) as the leadership of the Ghana Music Rights Organization (GHAMRO) together with its members from various parts of the country held its first ever annual general meeting.

Pertinent among the issues discussed were welfare of it’s members, royalty distribution, rights collection and many others.

An audited report was also presented to the members who moved for its acceptance. However, this did not come without interrogation as renowned female musician Akosua Adjapong raised issues on certain monies which she believed had not been accounted for. The alleged issues were however immediately attended to as the leadership took time to explain how some monies were expended.

The meeting also saw a major development as members present moved for the adoption a new constitution that changes the number of years for a term of office for the chairperson of the organization.


Contrary to the 2012 constitution where the chairman of the board could stay in power for two (2) years till a general election, the amended constitution of 2016 allows a two – four year term in office. This will however take effect from 2017.

According to Articles 38(a) and (b);

38(a). The Chairman and Vice Chairman of the Board, of whom one at least shall be a composer, author or performer, shall be elected by the board of Directors from among themselves. The Chairman and Vice-Chairmen of the board shall serve a term of fur (4) years, and may seek re-election as Chairman and Vice-Chairmen for another term only, so long as they remain qualified to act as Directors of the Society.

(b) For the avoidance of doubt, a member who qualifies to be elected as a member of the Board of Directors shall hold office for four years, and may seek re-election to serve on the Board as long as he is voted for by the member in general elections to be held every four years.

Speaking at the annual general meeting, chairman of the organization and ace musician Kojo Antwi expressed his excitement at the success of the meeting and encouraged members to fully participate in the activities of the organization

Also present was the Ashanti Regional Police Commander DCOP Kofi Boakye who affirmed their police’s support for the organization in it’s collection of royalties.
