Rapist sentenced to 28 years

Durban ,SA - A 28-old-man was sentenced to 10 years in jail for rape and 18 years for two counts of robbery by the Empangeni Regional Court, KwaZulu-Natal police said on Thursday.

Last year, he raped a 40-year-old woman while she was asleep with her children, and stole two cellphones, Major Shooz Magudulela said.

He was sentenced on Tuesday.

KwaZulu-Natal police commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni, hoped the sentence would deter other criminals.
