Students of the Sampa Nurses Training School on Friday heaved a sigh of relief when president John Dramani  Mahama revealed that their long awaited allowances was ready for disbursement.

Speaking to the  chiefs and people of Sampa in the Jaman North district in the Brong Ahafo region as part of his tour to the region, Mr Mahama said " My brothers and sisters, the good news is that the ministry of Finance has released the funds so you will receive it soon."

Government announced a scrapping of the allowances in order to remove the restrictions on admission to the various training institutions due to the huge amounts it had to pay in the form of allowances.

However, the scrapping was met with much resistance from some students who rely on the allowances to support themselves in school.

Earlier this week in the Brong Ahafo region, President Mahama  said new
nurses who are yet to be put on the students loan scheme will also be put on the cancelled nurses allowance scheme.

But at Sampa, he reiterated that the students will get their allowances this month.

"You'll get them this month", he responded to the students who were eager to know when they should expect their monies.
