The teachers reportedly instigated the students to protest against the school authority’s decision to sift the number of students sitting next year’s West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE)
The agitations led to the destruction of school property as well as the burning of the school administration block by some angry students on Thursday night.
Police in the region have tightened security in the Nandom Township where the school is located.
Chairman of the Nandom Security Council, Catbert Baaba Kuupeil, who is also District Chief Executive (DCE) for the area, told Joy News, an emergency district security meeting has been held to set a roadmap to resolve the issues.
He said some recommendations made from the meeting are being followed through to ensure that there is peace, order and security in and around the school – as well as the community around it.
He indicated that the underlining causes of the situation are being addressed to prevent any recurrence of such an unfortunate destruction.
Mr Kuupeil assured parents that the total safety of their wards is being ensured, adding that even those who are in police custody are being cared for.
The students were protesting the school authority’s decision not to present them for next year’s West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) after a poor performance in the 2013/2014 examinations.
