Asamoah Gyan has allayed concerns after picking up a suspected calf injury in the Black Stars’ penultimate training session in Ghana ahead of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.

The 29-year-old’s calf was heavily strapped in ice after the session held at the Alhaji Sly Tetteh Park in Dansoman on Saturday.

Gyan says he felt a twitch in his calf while warming up with the rest of the team but went ahead to play a part in an 11-a-side game where he even scored.

The Al Ain ace is confident the injury is not that serious despite feeling ‘some pains’ after the session.

“I felt some pain in my calf during the warm up,” he told GHsoccernet

“I still feel the pains but I was able to train.

“The medical team will look at it but I don’t think it is anything serious.”

Gyan is one of the most important player of the Black Stars going into the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea.

He is the most reliable source of goals for the team and will thus be a massive blow if the injury turns out to be bad as feared.

Ghana is already without Kwadwo Asamoah for the tournament also through injury and is sweating on the fitness of striker Abdul Majeed Waris.
