A new case of a different strain of meningitis has been confirmed in the Jaman North district capital,Sampa, in the Brong Ahafo Region, making the affected districts to nine in the region.

Dr. Emmanuel Teviu, the medical  supritendent of the Sampa Government Hospital who disclosed the case to Abdul Razak on Sampa -based Gye Nyame FM Monday morning,  said it was rather a Meningococal meningitis which was confirmed in Sunyani last Saturday after a blood sample was taken to the Regional Hospital's laboratory.

The case was refered to the Sampa Government Hospital last Friday from Adadiem, a farming community in the district.

According to DR Teviu, the  18 year old boy who lived with his father at  Banda  in  the Brong Ahafo Region was referd to his facility after he had been unwell after visiting her mother at Adadiem.

Health workers at the  Jenini Health centre had refered him when his situation was getting worse, but
died 15 minutes on arrival at the district hospital on Friday afternoon.

This is the first time a different form of meningitis has been recorded in the region since the outbreak of pneumococal meningitis in the region in the latter part of 2015.

The Techiman South,Wenchi,Sunyani and the Asunafu North municipalities have had their share of the outbreak as well as Tain,Sene West,Techiman North,Kintampo South, and Jaman North.

In Jaman North it is likely to travel to neighbouring Ivory Coast if health officials relent on their duties because of the border its capital shares with the Francophone country.

Residents of the district are however griped in fear following the single case recorded there but the District Director of Health,Mr Samuel Opoku, says  there is no calls for panic because the affected person was not a resident of the district, and that their health team are doubling steps to curb the situation.

"Currently, our team are monitoring Adadiem and its environs on the possible outcome. We have also alerted health workers at the government hospital to give priority to cases from the area since there could be any", Mr Opoku added.
