Pretoria - Over 100 people were arrested for speeding in Johannesburg over the Easter weekend and a further 700 for drunken driving.

Johannesburg Metro Police Department spokesperson Wayne Minnaar said one of those arrested was a bus driver traveling at 104km/h in a 60km/h zone.

“There were one hundred and eight motorists arrested for speeding on Joburg Roads this Easter weekend, as well as 797 for drunken driving, which included the arrest of a bus driver caught at 104km/h in a 60km/h,” said Minnaar.

The bus driver was arrested on the Golden Highway near Vlakfontein with a full load of passengers which he was transporting from Moria to the Vaal area.

Another driver was caught driving a red Polo at 173km/h in a 120km/h zone on the N1 near Soweto on Good Friday.

Minnaar said those arrested were expected to appear in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.
