Cape Town - Two people were killed when their car ploughed through several trees before landing on the fence of a Durbanville primary school on Friday morning, paramedics said.

Metro rescue and fire services secured the car so paramedics could treat the two passengers. The pair had however already died from their injuries. The cause of the accident was not yet known.

Meanwhile, near Camps Bay, a man had a lucky escape when his car veered off a cliff and plunged 50m to the ground, landing just short of the sea on Thursday night, said ER24 spokesperson Chitra Bodasing.

He lost control as he went around a bend on Victoria Road, between Hout Bay and Camps Bay. Rescuers had to work quickly to get the trapped 35-year-old driver out before the tide came in. He was taken to a local hospital.
