Former Kenyan president Mwai Kibaki is set to undergo surgery in South Africa after a blood clot was found in a vein on his neck, reports said on Wednesday.

Kibaki was admitted to the Netcare Sunninghill Hospital in Johannesburg on Sunday after suffering a minor stroke.

He was airlifted to SA for specialised treatment after spending the entire day at Karen Hospital, where he was rushed after falling ill at his home in Muthiga, Nairobi.

On Tuesday, doctors found a clot in his neck and scheduled surgery for Thursday to remove it.

This is the third time the 84-year-old ex-president has suffered a stroke, Daily Nation reported.

However, doctors said that the blood clot was located in a safe part of his body.

Relatives who accompanied him and government officials confirmed that he was doing well and even walking around.
