The member of Parliament (MP) for Brong Ahafo's Jaman North constituency in Ghana, has revealed that his penchant to impact lives in his district has always been triggered by the magnanimity of the CEO of EAI Information Systems, Mr. Matthew Essieh.

Mr Siaka Stevens told news men at Sampa on Friday that the U.S based Ghana born banker and philanthropist is his mentor.

"Mr Essieh is not an elected official here in Ghana, yet he has the district at heart and do many good things for the people. Through his efforts, we have a ward for our district hospital, which thousands are benefitting from.... I am learning a lot from him," the honourable MP said to reporters shortly after he inaugurated a Patient Relative Hostel for the district hospital.

He continued to say that, apart from funding needy students to attain higher heights in education and  promotion of the culture of  his natives, he felt the new facility was a necessity rather than a "vote buying" project as bandied by his opponents.

The facility that was funded by the MP's Health Fund was constructed at a cost of ₵ 150,000 ($37,500). It is expected to house about 200 people whose relatives would be admitted at the hospital.

Dr. Philip Taah-Amoakoh, the acting medical superintendent at the health facility said, Hitherto, patients and their relatives shared beds at the hospital, which interfered with their duties.

"There was nothing like privacy for  clients on admission which was so bad." he added.

The Sampa Government Hospital, since its inception by the government of Ghana, has several of its infrastructure from philanthropists one of whom is the CEO of EAI Information Systems, Matthew Essieh.

Through his charitable work, he has built social and infrastructure services in that rural part of  Ghana. Among the projects he has commissioned and managed are the construction of a dormitory that accommodates over 100 girls at the Nafana Senior High School and the construction of a 40 bed hospital ward and a maternity ward to service a district population of about 90,000. He has also actively sponsored students in higher education in Ghana and in the U.S.

In an interview with Sampa -based Gye Nyame FM, in 2015, about the motivation behind his philanthropic activities, Mr. Essieh said " I want to be a part of the solutions to the problems of my people, regardless the burdens of my family."

These achievements might have informed the decision of Hon.Stevens to finance the construction of the hostel that will serve residents of neighboring Ivory Coast who seek medical care at Sampa.
