Nigerian police have warned popular singer 2face Idibia that he will be arrested if he goes ahead with Monday's march in the main city, Lagos, to protest against the worsening economic crisis in the oil-rich state, local media reports. <br />
<br />
The artist is demanding an "urgent explanation into the reckless economic downturn nationwide".<br />

The protest is due to take place in both Lagos and the capital, Abuja, with support being rallied on Twitter:<br />

Singer Mr Eazi is set to release three hot new singles in coming days. Titled Business, 2 People and Tilapia, these records, off Mr. Eazi’s forthcoming Accra to Lagos mixtape, feature AMG Business act Medikal, as well as idol and one half of R2Bees Mugeez.<br />

He announced the release of these records by posting stunning artworks on his Twitter page. As expected, this has significantly excited his fans, who have taken over the micro blogging site with their responses and retweets. Some  have also joked about his choice of titles using local cuisine: he already has songs titled Bankulize and Shitor.<br />

Songs like Skin Tight, Dance For Me,  Bankulize, and Leg Over, because of their wide success, have  catapulted him to international fame, signing with Wizkid’s StarBoy Worldwide, sharing a stage with Lauryn Hill, appearances on Tim Westwood TV, headlining concerts  at prime venues as the Indigo O2, among other feats.<br />

Nigerian music star, Tiwa Savage, has been announced as one of the artistes that will perform at the 8th annual Essence “Black Women in Music”—an official GRAMMY Week event – this February.<br />
<br />
The event, held the week of the Grammys, will take place on February 9 in Los Angeles.<br />
<br />
The event is being held to salute the year’s extraordinary GRAMMY nominees and celebrate four-time GRAMMY winner Erykah Badu on the 20th anniversary of her groundbreaking debut album, “Baduizm.”<br />
<br />
Speaking about having Tiwa who, recently signed on with Roc Nation, sing at the event, Essence president, Michelle Ebanks, said “Our collaboration with The Recording Academy underscores the mission of our ‘Black Women in Music’ platform. Essence, like the GRAMMYs, has always been at the forefront of recognizing the genius of so many artists and influencers—from iconic legends to the next generation’s international rising stars, like Tiwa Savage.<br />

“We also applaud our event sponsor, Lincoln, for returning once again to support the vision of this event.”<br />
<br />
Established in 2010, ESSENCE ‘s Black Women in Music celebrates the achievements of Black women in the industry.<br />

Previous honorees include Jill Scott, Andra Day, Solange, Mary J. Blige, Kelly Rowland, and Janelle Monaé.<br />

In a post on Instagram, he wrote;<br />

“Last night my angel left me, my first love stopped breathing and it’s the deepest pain I’ve ever felt. I love you for every sacrifice you made to make me the man I am today, I’ve loved you through the tough times. I’ve loved you through happier days and all I can say at this point is that I will love you forever. I will miss you mummy.”<br />
<br />
Barely a month after the passing and with all the pain in the heart, the comedian has given the mother a befitting burial. This happened over the weekend.<br />
<br />
In a post, Basket Mouth said, ”<br />
Goodbye Mum, you’ll live in our hearts forever.”<br />

Organizers of the MTV EMAs have cleared the confusion on the ‘Best African Act’ award earlier announced as Wizkid but later withdrawn and given to Tanzania’s Ali Kiba.<br />
<br />
The error sparked a social media outcry and MTV has now cleared the air on the unfortunate error.<br />
<br />
An MTV spokesperson commented, ‘Both Wizkid and Alikiba are great artistes and deserving winners at the MTV EMAs and we congratulate them wholeheartedly on their achievements. We apologize for any confusion but we are pleased to recognize the achievements of both these artists on this global platform.’<br />
<br />
6 ‘Worldwide Act’ winners, including Wizkid, were selected by an international committee of MTV music executives to recognize current artists who are rising to have a wider geographic appeal beyond their local regions.<br />
<br />
The winners were chosen based off a range of criteria including international MTV video play, radio airplay, streams, and sales across multiple territories and regions.<br />
<br />
The winner of the ‘Best African Act’ award was selected by fans via votes on MTVEMA.com.<br />
<br />
Alikiba has also commented on winning the award saying, ‘Thanks to MTV for this huge honour – it’s very exciting to be recognized at the MTV EMAs and I am delighted to bring home the award to my fans in Tanzania and East Africa.  Thank you to my family and management.’

The deputy Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Dzifa Gomashie has asked Ghanaians to jealously guard the country’s cultural heritage.<br />
<br />
Speaking at a press soiree on Thursday at the Peduase Valley Resort, she observed that the preservation of “our cultural heritage is important” and its “promotion thereof.”<br />
<br />
“For as long as we let our appreciation and our desire to be like everybody else around the world, before we think of ourselves then we slow down the way in which we grow,” bemoaned the veteran actress.<br />
<br />
Hence, she advocated a “paradigm shift” that would ensure that the “development we want to see is home grown.”<br />
<br />
She said the governing National Democratic Congress under the stewardship of President John Mahama has been trying to imbibe into Ghanaians the sense of patriotism, and the need to uphold Ghana’s cultural identity.<br />
<br />
She made reference to Ghana’s ratification of the seven United Nation's Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) conventions.<br />
<br />
What government sought to achieve in having these conventions ratified, Gomashie said, was to create “opportunities for us in accessing funding, and also for us to share what we have with the world.”<br />
<br />
Also at the soiree was Ghanaian Afro pop singer-songwriter, Noella Wiyaala who thrilled the gathering with her soothingly tenor voice.<br />
<br />
The Managing Director of the Peduase Valley Resort in his welcome address congratulated the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts for the support they have given the industry so far.<br />

Creator of the popular ‘Simigwa’ form of music, Gyedu-Blay Ambolley has disclosed that he was the first Ghanaian solo musician to perform at the Apollo Theater in the US.<br />
<br />
Ambolley says he graced the famous Apollo stage in 1991 and was the only act on the bill for that show that performed more than one song.<br />
<br />
Several renowned musicians including, Aretha Franklin, James Brown, Michael Jackson, The Supremes, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye and Elton John, have graced the Apollo Theater stage in New York.<br />
<br />
Rapper Sarkodie’s performance at the same venue in August last year generated a lot of controversy when it was reported that he was the first Ghanaian to perform at the 1,506-capacity Apollo Theater.<br />
<br />
Okyeame Quophi, former member of hiplife duo Akyeame, debunked the reports by stating that his group, together with Daddy Lumba, performed at the venue first.<br />
<br />
“Akyeame was the first Hiplife duo to play at the Apollo Theatre to a mixed crowd so huge the police came to stop the show. This was in 2000 with Daddy Lumba,” he said.<br />
<br />
Gyedu-Blay Ambolley, speaking in an interview on Cosmopolitan Mix with Doreen Andoh on Joy FM, revealed that although he had heard some bands, which had Ghanaian members, performed at the venue, he is the first solo act to do so.

Nollywood actor Hanks Anuku has disclosed that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will win the 2016 general elections.<br />
<br />
Anuku, who has been living in Ghana for some time, says he will put his money on Nana Addo Dankwah Akufu-Addo to win the mandate of Ghanaians on December 7.<br />
<br />
Asked who win the 2016 elections, in an interview with Hitz @1, he said, “My prediction…its most likely Nana Akufo Addo takes the day.”<br />
<br />
His prediction is in clear contradiction to an earlier interview with Joy News where he dispelled rumours that he supports or is campaigning for the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).<br />
<br />
His dismissal of the rumours is coming after photos of him clad in NPP paraphernalia surfaced online some days ago.<br />
<br />
According to the actor, who mostly plays the role of a villain in Nollywood movies, the NPP paraphernalia is part his peace initiative as the country goes to the polls.<br />
<br />
He told Joy News, “I’m a peacemaker. The most important thing is to be amongst the people who preach peace. It’s about Ghana, one Ghana, one Africa, one people and wherever you find me – be it NPP, be it NDC, CPP, PPP – I’m preaching peace all the way,” he explained.<br />
<br />
The ‘Desperate Ambition’ actor stressed that he is “not a politician,” and that he is “a filmmaker and we use this platform to preach peace to the people, to the youth knowing that they watch my movies.”<br />
<br />
He said the campaign is not for the NPP and that he is “going to that even with other parties.”<br />

Stonebwoy said that he was so elated when the Paramount Chief of Tamale, Gukpegu Naa (Naa Alhaji Abdulai) decided to honour him as the “Dancehall Warrior”.<br />

He continued that he is humbled by the fact that honour came from no mean person but highly respected chiefs from the Northern region who are revered as warriors by their people and that was why he decided to do his “Sapashini” hit track to show his profound appreciation to them.<br />
<br />
The ‘Go Higher’ hitmaker recounted his experience when he visited the north to stage a music concert recently.<br />
<br />
He narrated that he got scared when he alighted from a flight in the Northern Region because he could not stand the large crowd who had gathered there to welcome him.<br />
<br />
The Ghanaian Dancehall artiste continued that the crowd kept increasing and at a point he thought he was watching a movie especially when they drove him through the streets of Tamale because he was overwhelmed by the enormous crowd who cheered him.<br />
<br />
According to him, he had postponed his show in the Northern region on several occasions due to his international tours and he believes that that may have also contributed to the high level of anxiety the residents of Tamale exhibited when they saw him.<br />
<br />
He also applauded Northern Region based acts like Fancy Gadam and Macasio for upholding dancehall music in the region and making it attractive to the inhabitants of the Region.

Nigerian actor Desmond Elliot is calling for support for his fellow actor, Prince James Uche, who is battling with kidney failure.<br />

According to Desmond Elliot, Prince James Uche had been suffering for about a year.<br />

President Jacob Zuma arrived in Goa, India, on Saturday with his delegation for the 8th BRICS summit, his office said.<br />
<br />
His arrival comes as nine people are in custody after a spate of looting and arson in Braamfontein on Friday night and Saturday morning, and questions over the safe storage of former Public Protector Thuli Madonsela's report on "state capture" which Zuma did not want released immediately.<br />
<br />
Minister of State Security, Mr David Mahlobi is listed as being part of the BRICS delegation.<br />
<br />
The summit theme is "Building Responsive, Inclusive and Collective Solutions", and leaders and delegates will discuss intra-BRICS Cooperation.<br />
<br />
Issues will include international conflicts, the fight against terrorism, and the reform of global system of governance.<br />
<br />
This refers to the "democratisation" of the United Nations and the Bretton Woods Institutions. The presidency said leaders would also meet with the BRICS Business Council.<br />
<br />
The delegations includes Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Maite Nkoana-Mashabane; Minister of Trade and Industry, Rob Davies; Minister of Science and Technology, Naledi Pandor and Minister of Small Business Development Lindiwe Zulu.<br />
<br />

A court application on Friday by the Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Des van Rooyen to stop the release of the "state capture" report led to a postponement to 2 November.<br />

The report was expected to gain insight into allegations that a family of wealthy industrialists who hailed from India and started a massive business empire in South Africa had a hand in the appointment of certain Cabinet ministers in South Africa.<br />

Amnesty International says Nigeria is trying to muzzle dissent by arresting and intimidating journalists and protesters.<br /><br />The London-based rights group cites examples of police blocking peaceful protests. Those protests include activists demanding the government rescue more than 200 kidnapped Chibok schoolgirls, Shiite Muslims demanding the release of their long-detained leader and separatists calling for an independent Biafra in the southeast.<br /><br />The statement Wednesday says Amnesty has documented cases of enforced disappearances and killings of pro-Biafra supporters by security forces.<br /><br />It also cites the detention of several journalists critical of officials in the government of President Muhammadu Buhari.<br /><br />Amnesty urges the government to halt detentions without trial and the excessive use of force.<br /><br />Nigeria's government did not immediately comment on the statement, which was released after offices closed.

As Kenya prepares to close the world's largest refugee camp, a rights watchdog said the repatriation of Somalis from Dadaab camp is based on fear and misinformation and violates international standards.<br /><br />Human Rights Watch, which interviewed scores of people in the vast camp last month, said on Thursday that many Somalis are returning home involuntarily, only to face danger, persecution and hunger.<br /><br />Kenya wants to close the vast camp in north-east Kenya by November, insisting it is a security threat and a drain on national resources. It currently houses some 263 000 Somali refugees.<br /><br />"Many refugees ... say they have agreed to return home because they fear Kenya will force them out if they stay," said the HRW report after interviewing around 100 people at the camp.<br /><br />Refugees spoke of intimidation by the Kenyan government, lack of information on ways of remaining or on conditions in Somalia, and fears of losing a $400 repatriation cash grant if they wind up being deported at the end of the year.<br /><br />"The Kenyan authorities are not giving Somali refugees a real choice between staying and leaving, and the UN refugee agency isn't giving people accurate information about security conditions in Somalia," said HRW's refugee rights director Bill Frelick in a statement.<br /><br />"There is no way these returns can be considered voluntary."<br /><br />There was no immediate response from Kenya or the United Nations to the HRW concerns.<br /><br /><b>'Fear and misinformation' </b><br /><br />Kenya's repatriation programme, "fuelled by fear and misinformation, does not meet international standards for voluntary refugee return," set out in a 1951 international Refugee Convention, the rights group said.<br /><br />Since sending troops into neighbouring Somalia in 2011, Kenya has come under repeated attack from Shabaab, East Africa's long-time branch of al-Qaeda, Islamic State's rivals.<br /><br />Nairobi has taken a hardline position, claiming Dadaab acts as a terrorist training ground for Shabaab Islamists, and has publicly and repeatedly said all the Somali refugees would be removed from the country by the end of the year.<br /><br />"The Kenyan government needs to make clear that Somalis who don't feel that they can go back to Somalia right now are still going to be welcome in Kenya," HRW researcher Laetitia Bader told AFP.<br /><br />"They need to give Somali refugees an option," she said.<br /><br />She added that the United Nations had a responsibility to provide reliable information to the refugees on what they were going back to at home.<br /><br />"Right now they're not doing that," she said.<br /><br />Just 24 000 refugees have taken up the offer of voluntary return since the programme began in December 2014, of whom 18 000 returned in 2016, including 10 000 after the announcement of the camp's closure.<br /><br />The vast majority of residents of the sprawling Dadaab complex of camps close to the Kenya-Somalia border fled Somalia's more than two-decade-long conflict. Many remain fearful of returning to a country where insecurity remains rife.
